2008 - 2009. Sadly we were unable to run the national competition during these years, for different and complex reasons. We will endeavour to have the competition running again for 2010.
2009 did see the addition of new Dan grades, including Terry Streather and Nick Carpenter from Leicester
2008 Saw Steve Wetton from Birmingham awarded his 2nd Dan.

2007
The Kata & Tanto competition was once again held in Leicester on November 3rd 2007. The competition seems to go from strength to strength, with an incredible turnout, especially in the Kyu grade section. Competitors were from Birmingham, Leicester, Northern Ireland & Stratford.
Northern Ireland clearly had a lengthy journey to get here but yet again their efforts were rewarded with excellent results, winning gold in both Dan & Kyu grade tanto competitions. Jamie Hamill was undefeated on the day and displayed skills worthy of both the Tim Burton Memorial Trophy and his 4th Dan awarded later that day. It was almost a clean sweep in the Dan grade section, Paul McTrusty winning Silver and and only a win on his final fight by Andy Mac prevented Northern Ireland from winning the bronze as well. Robert McTrusty was incredible in the Kyu grade section, also remaining undefeated and walking away with Northern Ireland's second Gold trophy.
There were some very hard matches and all the competitors should be proud.
The kata competition was fiercely contested and only one point seperated the pairs winning Gold, Silver and Bronze. Martin Reynolds and Richard Frimstone were clear winners of the gold, demonstrating the Koryu Goshin No Kata (Dai San).
The day also saw some well deserved grading successes, Andy McCormack gaining his 6th Dan, Tony De-Haven his 5th Dan and both Dave McCluskey and Jamie Hamill gaining 4th Dans.
A very successful day and we look forward to next year - it's hoped that we may be able to put on two competitions.
2007
The annual summer school was again hosted this year by the Twycross Zoo club. Once again John Ray presented a well organised event with excellent food and social provisions.
Special mention must be made of our friends from the BAA, Bob Jones (6th Dan Tomiki Aikido) and Mick Pratt (3rd Dan Tomiki Aikido) who came for the summer school. It was great training with you and I'm sure that we all gained a great deal from the joint excercise, long may that continue.
Well done to those who successfully graded (see grading news)
The AGM was also held on this weekend and Sensei Eustace also proposed the creation of a committee of senior coaches within the Association. This was agreed and the committe will comprise of Sensei Eustace (Chairman), Tony De-Haven (Leicester), Martin Reynolds (Stratford), Dave McCluskey (Secretary) and Paul Lane (Birmingham).

The seminar in Exeter on the 10th of February went very well. It is a long time since as many students attended a seminar. It was a long way to travel, but well worth the effort. Thanks to all those that did make the effort, for many it was a 400 mile round trip.A special thanks must go to the Sensei of the club, Dave Mackenzie-Clarke for a well organised day and a great buffet.
Exeter is a new member of the organisation & it was a pleasure to meet & train with them. I hope it was the first of many. There was a grading & all details on the grading section.

The Tanto and Kata competition was a great success this year, with an excellent turnout. Thanks to all those who made the trip, especially those who travelled very long distances.
Kata saw members of all grades displaying very good technical skills. Many of the competitors entered for the first time and achieved very commendable scores. Well done!
The Tanto competition also saw a good increase in the number of competitors, again for many it was their first taste of the sporting aspect of the art. Special mention should be made of Wayne Hand from Birmingham who won the kyu gold having won every match and displaying fine competitive spirit. Wayne is a competitor to watch for the future (several Dan grades might be sweating)
Special mention must be made about Gruff McIntyre and the strong contingent from Northern Ireland. Despite not being able to compete this year Gruff made the very long journey to return the Tim Burton Memorial Trophy having been the valiant winner for the last 4 years in a row. It's always great to see the guys and we hope Gruff will be fit to challenge the new holder, Dave McCluskey next year.
For the full results (and hopefully photos soon) please see the competition page.

For more details please contact individual club coaches, Sensei Eustace or the Secretary of our Association, Dave McCluskey.
